Boss says that courtesy clerks cannot wear straw hats.

At the beginning of summer, a few of the courtesy clerks wore straw hats while performing duties outside. However, the store director told them they could not wear the hats anymore because they look “unprofessional”. The heat index here has been consistently in the mid-100s. I saw one of the clerks outside yesterday and he was absolutely drenched in sweat. I told him to wear his straw hat but he said he doesn’t want to get written up or fired. He also told he asked for a regular work hat but hadn’t received it yet. This is crazy, right? Why would any employer choose to strictly adhere to a uniform policy if it meant that one of their employees could potentially suffer heat stroke?
