It doesn’t matter how good the company is, how well they treat you, or how long you have been there, they can pull the rug out from you at any time with no remorse [My Story Inside]

I recently joined a new company after switching industries. This company seemingly looked great. They fostered a welcoming attitude, everyone was always available to answer any questions anyone had (include across department), they celebrated their staff and their clients. On paper, unlimited PTO, 100% remote work, perks for your birthday, regular coaching, good work life balance. Well, today they laid off a huge chunk of their staff during the work day, myself included. For myself, I was actually working with a client and was locked out of everything. I figured it was a big or maintenance, and got in touch with my boss who said they'd get back to me. I was notified about being laid off from a colleague. The layoffs effected people who were with the company from the start, many with families or currently pregnant, and others who recently started and are now finding it hard to figure out how to interview with so little time at the company. There were people on leave affected. Everyone who was let go did their job superbly and went above and beyond, and instead of being told a why, we were told that our health benefits will end in the next few days.

My advice is thus: do not get overly comfortable, don't feel grateful for jobs that appear to be inclusive/supporting/encouraging because they can absolutely deceive you
