I just got fired today for no real reason.

I worked in consumer lending at this local institution for the last 2.5 years as an underwriter, as well as cash management. I got along with my coworkers well & would say that I exceeded in what I did. My boss quit a few months ago & he pulled me aside to let me know before turning in his notice. Mentioned me that he was looking into it for about a year & that a lot of it had to do about the hierarchy and how they played favorites.

Ever since he quit, we had someone new step in to replace my former boss & work was never really the same for me since. To clarify, I had to use a lot of my PTO at the beginning of the year due to my wife getting extremely sick and used up all of it by June. I never took a vacation or any time off for leisure. I had requested to take unpaid time off, two days, so I could attend a funeral. And new boss rejected my time off due to not having PTO, but offered me a compromise. He said that if I took shorter lunches and worked overtime for the next week, he would allow me to take a half day so I could at least get some time off.

After I took that half day & a few days of short lunches later, I got fired today.

He said that was not a part of our agreement and I had to check in with him first, even though it was agreed upon verbally. There was no written agreement to this proposal he offered- so when he let me go, I had no choice but to leave. I couldn’t back myself up.

I feel so lost. I’m still paying off medical bills, I have no insurance now, no job and no idea what to do. Do you feel that the termination was justified? I was always praised for being a great leader & received annual bonuses. I don’t understand. This just ruined me.
