This is going to be a slightly long post, but i would love to know what exactly have I done wrong here.
A little backstory:
I am in Pakistan, have a law degree. The working conditions for lawyers in Pakistan arr extremely abysmal. The first pay that i got after a month of work was 70$ and that point i realized this was a poor profession with poor opportunities.
Mind you that in Pakistan a decent salary to run your own house is about 1000$-1500$ per month. Till about 2020 i was earning around 500-750 per month and had to struggle for my living.
In 2020, i finally thanked my good fortune when i got a teaching opportunity at law school which paid about 750 per month and where i was working as visiting faculty on an 11 month contract renewed annually every august. I started off very well and i was able to achieve good results with my students, maintained a good classroom decorum and cordial relationships with my superiors. I was awarded a certificate for achieving a 4.2 GPA overall in my class by this same law school in 2021.
This teaching opportunity led me to further opportunities as visiting faculties at other institutes and by early 2023 i was almost earning 2500$ per month.
Which leads me to my current predicament. I had an argument with A higher up at this law school , with whom I previously had a good working relationship. She wanted me to check the homework of a deadbeat student on a saturday( my day off). I told her respectfully that i will check on Monday ( working day). She insisted that i check it immediately and give the student feedback, i remained adamant and again politely refused. Mind you, the student had an exam on the 29th of may and i would have checked his assignment on the 23rd. This led her to telling me that if i dont check the assignment by today your contract will be “re-evaluated”. I immediately apologized and did as she asked, while asking her not to do that.
Fast forward to today. The new term for the school is starting tommorow. The school has given me my time table for the current term. However, my friend who is also a teacher at another law school shared a message with me that he received from this person today whereby she was asking him for an interview for my position. He refused immediately.
No vacancy has been officially advertised for my position. I have yet to renew my contract and they are probably trying to replace me before i can sign any renewal.
