I worked for an ecommerce auto parts company from 2016-2021 in a variety of positions. During my time there, I experienced blatant sexism, sexual harassment, and an individual in management telling me that only a particular race would ever date me cause I'm fat. Admittedly, I stayed there way longer than I should have but I work for a wonderful company that actually lets us use our unlimited PTO, they're going out of their way to develop me professionally, and two of the three C-levels are women. My life is great now!
I still had contacts at my last place of employment cause I worked for shitty people, but with amazing people. Anytime something bad would happen in the company, my DMs would light up. So a few weeks ago, one of the girls reached out and was like “I think we're all getting getting let go. They are cutting off everyone's access to stuff.” Turns out she was right. They went for about 2 more weeks with a skeleton crew in sales and customer service before shutting it down. They let go their top salesmen, individuals who had been with the company for 20+ years, with a single week of severance. It blew my mind.
As much as I hate my old coworkers not having jobs, I couldn't be more thrilled that this place no longer exists. I feel bad for every customer who had an existing customer service complaint, and I am almost positive they still owe a lot of money to their vendors. But fuck that place. Leaving it was the best thing that's ever happened to me and I hope my former coworkers eventually find themselves in a similar place.
