So my partner was diagnosed w cancer at a young age in 2018. They made it through cancer but then have to take monthly injections of some anti cancer BS deep into their body that is basically lower dose chemo, which ruins their immune system.
Covid happened and we have not gone indoors without a mask since, because the oncologist says due to the medications side effect of wrecking immune system, if they got covid it could be really bad.
The whole company was wfh from 2020 to roughly 6 months ago, where they announced hybrid rules and 3 days a week in office. I told my manager no, I’m not going to risk getting them sick and go against doctors orders. This was fine when covid was still recognized as a big deal, but now that the health emergency is “over” it’s coming to more of a head.
Today I had a meeting w my manager and they told me corporate is looking at metrics of who comes into the office and for how long and they told them it’s a minimum of 2 days in office or it’s going to be a problem.
My partner just met w oncologist last week; they say sorry but things are still
Bad and we are about to have another summer wave of covid, we can tell because of wastewater testing.
About my job; I have my dream career. I am paid well and I work on things I am passionate about and I’ve been outperforming most other team members so company has been accommodating up until this point.
So right now I’m thinking I have a few options:
-
Ignore this until it becomes a problem and corporate gets pissed.
-
Be proactive and contact HR. I have already done this and explained my situation. HR told me they would send me forms about this. They never did. I could contact them again and use the letter from the oncologist to back up why I don’t feel safe going back to the office w a bunch of people.
What would you do? Any helps is appreciated.
