Working at a mid-sized software company as my first job out of college for a little over a year. My manager is slightly passive aggressive and seems to always be looking to ‘discipline’ me. I’m the only young person on the team.
Admittedly it has taken me some time to warm up to the work and the pace at which the team works. Now that it’s been a year, I’m generally a lot more comfortable with the scope of the work and what my day to day looks like.
However, recently in a team meeting, when my manager asked me what the progress of an item was and I answered that I hadn’t found any issues (my job is to find and report bugs), my manager began berating me extremely harshly in front of the whole team for half of the meeting.
After the meeting, I ended up going to the restroom and sobbing for an hour because I couldn’t control my tears. For the past week, I would start tearing up whenever I would think of it. In a one on one with my manager afterwards, she claims that she “lost it” and that this only makes me “stronger for the industry”. She also says things like “no one else would spend that much effort on me”. Strongly considered actively looking for a new job. Thoughts?
