3-month Notice Policy

Apparently my work has a 3-month-notice policy. It's applicable for everyone, even my bosses. How enforceable actually IS this? It will have been in my contract, I know, but still…what can they really do? Or do I need to refer to my contract for that (FWIW it's basically a minimum wage job, I get £16k a year for 4 days 9-5)
