Boss said they wont give me a raise because my partner is out of work.

Title says it all, basically. My husband is a stay at home dad, the very summarized version is because the costs of childcare in our area is insane and we didn’t qualify for any assistance. Today, my employer presented me an option with my job that could POTENTIALLY lead to more money, but it’s sales based and would cut out a steady stream of income I get from this company (complicated situation…our call center books our services, but they don’t collect accurate quoting information.

I can convert these into accurate quotes and I get commission off those, which is basically guaranteed. They want to cut that and put me into more direct sales, which means the call center is not involved and I can earn my commission on a less guaranteed basis). He wants to give these “conversions” to a training salesman so they learn the ropes, and have me do more sales.

I told them I’m uncomfortable cutting my guaranteed income for a gamble as I have a family of four to feed.

My employer said they want to pay me more, but they’re afraid if they do my husband will never return to the work force.

Whether he should or not, in my opinion, is none of their business, but to use that for an excuse to pay me less is just such a low blow I had to share.
