“You need to think about which job is more important,”

So me (30 M) and my wife (28 F) are having a baby! We found out about a month and a half ago. Together we decided that she will quit her job during the pregnancy then pick up part time work after, between our savings and my job that I’ve been at for 10+ where I am a manager years our bills are covered till then. I was at a local gas station near my work and saw a sign that said they were looking for overnight help starting at 15 dollars an hour which is half my current rate at my normal job and more than my wife was making at her job she quit.

I thought this was insane so my wife and I decided that it would be easy work so I got hired on for two over night shifts a week which brings in almost as much as my wife was a month before. This was great because she was sleeping when I was working anyways and I set it up so I was off at my full time job the morning after. We were able to save most of our savings plus buy more stuff for our baby that’s on the way. Also note this gas station and my normal job are two different industry’s and my boss at my full time job knows and is ok with it since I’m just doing it till we have the baby.

Anyways to the story, I was working one morning. Shift starts at 12 am and goes to 8 am and my replacement comes in and clocks in and is supposed to take over my register (I can’t sign off till she signs on) 8:10 comes that’s fine. 8:20 I’m a little annoyed but that’s ok, 8:45 I don’t have any customers so I walk into the back and find her just chatting with another coworker. I politely ask her to come take me over then go back to the register. 9:15 she finally takes me over and I ask her why and she gets all snippy with me and goes into a rant about how it’s none of my damn business.

Next night I come in at 12 and get called into my bosses office because apparently the other cashier complained and said I was being mean to her or something. I told her my side of the story, but she wasn’t having it. She then made a comment “I don’t know how you’ve been at your other job for ten years if you act like this,” I was shocked about why she would even say something like that then she said, “You can’t rush the other cashier and berate them just because you have another job, you need to think about what job is more important,” and I honestly laughed out loud. I told them in the interview that this job was temporary till my child was born and she was acting like this was supposed to be more important than my full time job. Long story short is I quit that place, and I know why they pay so much, it’s because no one wants to do it because of a boss like that.
