I got a job today! I think. Maybe.

I got a positive response to my application for a remote data entry job today. The company followed up with me, told me details about the work, the training (yes, training) and compensation. I ackowledged everything and they went through a long and precise interview with me, scored me very highly, and then eventually offered me the job. All of this happened on a Signal chat. After I accepted the offered, the manager on the chat told me that they wanted me to work with their hardware and software (fine with me), and they would send me a check so I could order the equipment. At that point, I very gently expressed some concern about the check…could they just ship me the equipment as other employers have done? They said OK.

I offered to purchase the equipment myself on their behalf with a company account…as long as my own money was not involved. They said OK to that too.

A few hours go by, and the manager pings me again. He told me he is about to send me a “confirmation number” which I should text back to him immediately. I said OK and waited a few minutes. Nothing happened. He said I am about to send it to you, get ready. I said I'm ready, go. Nothing happened. I told him I haven't received the code, and he answers I have not sent the code yet. Okay. Nothing happened. After 5 more minutes I sent a question mark (?). That's the last comm of the day.

So, what do you think? Do I have a job or not? I guess I'll know more tomorrow…but between the check remark and the non-existant confirmation number, I am concerned. I've never been interviewed and hired over text either, but I guess that is what is happening now, right?
