So I work for a national chain steakhouse in Central Florida and the AC broke a couple weeks ago. They told the employees that the parts were on back order and the air wouldn't be fixed for 8 weeks or more. The kitchen was 95F and because of company policy the back door has to stay closed so there was no ventilation. They also decided to go extra hard on the dress code and enforced the long sleeve button up shirt policy. We also have t-shirts that they were allowed to wear previously but management wouldn't even allow them to be worn despite the heat. You can guarantee that if the air conditioning broke at their corporate location, they would have had that shit fixed within a day or two. Fast forward to yesterday and a little bird placed a call to the local OSHA office and asked them if it was legal for them to be doing this. They said they would be contacting and or visiting the restaurant within the day because with the extreme heat we have been having it is extremely hazardous for employees to be working in those conditions. Low and behold come today and there were two HVAC repair trucks and suddenly they say AC would be fixed within a few days. So it's quite evident that the greedy pieces of shit at corporate were going to try and wait it out until the end of summer and then say something like “it's not that hot anymore so we're not worried about it”. I was very surprised that OSHA would spring into action that quick and kudos to them for doing the right thing.
