After finishing my masters, I joined one of the top consulting firm back in 2007 a campus hire. I worked there for almost 8 years and quit to embark on my entrepreneurial journey. I had a pretty great start and the company was self sustaining without any external investments until the covid shit happened. I had to shut down the company last year.
I don't want to get back to the grind of entrepreneurship so my best option is to move back to consulting and its been almost a year I have been trying to look for a job. I used to work as a PeopleSoft consultant back then so been applying to positions with my previous company and 100 other consulting firms.
Now the problem is I have 8 years gap in my consulting career so none of the companies are willing to take a chance with me. I tried applying to non consulting jobs but I get a sorry email saying “I'm over qualified”.
I have 8 sets of resumes that I send across based on the Job description. For the past one year I must have applied to at-least 1000 roles but I get rejected because I have 8 years gap and I'm over qualified.
And this also happened in July this year. I was told I got selected for a top consulting firm, they finished the BGV process and then I get a call saying we are sorry the project has been cancelled.
I'm like wtf, is it my fate or it something else that after 15+ years of industry experience I'm jobless for a year now, no salary, depending on family for basic necessities and fucking single af in life.
I'm pretty tired and losing the will to live. What should I do?
