Antiwork

I used to think I was awful at my profession. But now I’m in a new job and realized that I just did not have good leaders to help me thrive.

I used to work in corporate and now I’m in the public sector and unionized and wow the difference is insane in the best way. I work in marketing and I had so many micromanagers who didn’t understand best practices, would totally re-write my content and just tell me it wasn’t “exciting” enough or whatever bs and I would study what they did but it was never enough and I realized they were a “their way or the highway” person and there was no winning. So I felt really beat down and insecure. Feeling like I chose the wrong profession. But now …. This week there was a big project at my new job. And the leaders were so supportive. Instead of re-writing, they provided multiple rounds of feedback and said “try thinking about it this way…” and I actually LEARNED by DOING. I’m not bad at what I do.…

Instead of re-writing, they provided multiple rounds of feedback and said “try thinking about it this way…” and I actually LEARNED by DOING. I’m not bad at what I do. I’m not a failure. I just didn’t have adequate support to succeed. Logically, I knew this before… but now I FEEL it.

Good luck to all of those out there being micromanaged, and fuck corporate.
