So, I have been employed at a large publicly listed company in Australia for a little over 3 years. Over that time my job has changed quite a bit.
For a little over a year and a half my job has morphed into a senior role of “x and y”, although my title has remained as an ” assistant”. I am recognized by colleagues as a senior which I think is important to this story.
I have raised this with my manager and he has said that they were working to fix it, however nothing has come from this.
Recently a coworker has moved on from their senior role of “z” and their role was replaced, their title was changed to be “senior of x,y and z” (x and y being my responsibilities).
I spoke to my manager about this and he has said that my tasks won't change and I'll still be responsible for “x and y” however I can't get the title or senior as I lack a qualification, for which I am currently in the process of getting (2/3 or the way through). I mentioned that why is it that I can do the work without the qualification and can't get the title. He said once I get the qualification he'll change my title.
My issue is I'm scared to escalate this further as I don't want it to get to the higher ups and they say “he's right he shouldn't be doing the role, we'll have to make him redundant and hire someone with the qualification”.
Further to this I'm worried I'm going to get pushed out by the senior that has the title even though they wont be doing my tasks.
Can I get made redundant if I push for the title of senior, give the fact I've been doing the work for more than a year and a half as an assistant? Do I have a leg to stand on?
