Long time fan, first time caller…
Employer just hired me and 4 other analysts for a growing department. At every step in the recruiting process they told each of us that it would be 3 days in, 2 remote.
Just 30 days into the job, they decide to tell us that they are clawing back one of the remote days in order to “promote culture“. It is clear in talking to colleagues, that they’ve been planning to return to full time in office for a while and could have easily told us in our interviews.
I took the job because of the flexibility and negotiated my salary under that assumption. Now I’m wondering how to approach. I’ve already my manager that I was unhappy with it and that I felt like it was a bait and switch. He just gives me the “it’s outta my hands” look. The worst part is that he initially told me “don’t worry, I won’t share any of what we’re saying here”. I had to meet with him again and explain to him that I wasn’t just making an anonymous complaint.
Advice appreciated. Go to HR and ask for more money? Get a new job? Quiet quit? Stop whining and be glad I get to push buttons in an office for a living?
