No PTO until further notice

Just received an email from the CEO telling all employees the following: “As you all know, we had a 44% reduction in staff due to a round of layoffs. The remaining employees we need to show up to keep things moving. No longer can I allow or afford people to schedule time off as they want. Going forward if you need time off it will have to be approved by me and the answer will be NO 99.9% of the time. You May schedule time off without pay if you absolutely need time off” I have 2/3 of my annual vacation unused. This is a very seasonal business and we are heading into our slow months from September – January. It makes no sense why he would tighten it up now. Dude lays off half the staff then decides he won’t pay out vacation anymore. Wtf
