I (18 m) am living with my parents in an apartment in NY. Our landlord Mike has not picked up rent in about three months. This stresses my mom out, she's worried it makes us seem like we're not paying on purpose and the extra, undependable money in her account reminds her every day.
Mike is doing this, at least imo, because our toilet fucking sucks and it has for almost half a year now. We keep the bathroom fan on 24/7 because there's about a 90% chance it won't flush and it's easier to just give up after ten minutes of filling the water tank by hand and flushing nothing down again and again. We TOLD Mike he needs to fix it, and he said he would, but we've seen him zero times since then and I don't think he's going to make an appearance any time soon.
Idk the logistics of it but I recommended that my mom file a complaint online or call someone, because I know there are resources. She said that she couldn't because Mike wasn't under any government jurisdiction, which doesn't sound right but he is very rich. So maybe.
I just want our toilet to be fixed, and were too poor to afford a plumber without dipping into our excess rent.
