Can I skip the two-week notice?

I work a state job and due to the lengthy hiring process (jobs are audited before being posted, postings stay up for 2-4 weeks, search committees must be assembled to review resumes and do interviews), there is no such thing as getting replaced before your last day. Basically it will take them at least two months to backfill my position and that’s if all goes smoothly. With this in mind, does it even matter if I give a two-week notice? I’m not trying to use anyone there as a reference anyway.
