I work part time at a restaurant as wait staff, and normally my shifts are something like 5 or 6-10 pm. I’ve noticed lately that around 9:30-9:45 my boss will kind of go ‘alright I think that’s about everything for today, I think that’s all I’ll need you for’ or something like that. I’ll say ‘oh there’s still fifteen minutes until closing. I could clean these last few glasses? A few things still need to be put away’ and he’ll go ‘oh no that’s okay leave it for tomorrow’.
So even though there is work to do and I’m still on shift as the restaurant is still open, he nudges me to go home.
When I check my payslip for what should be a 4 hour shift, the pay is consequently at a rate of say, 3.75 hours.
It just feels like he’s trying to save every little buck that he can. That’s probably exactly it if I’m being honest. Just pay me for my last fifteen minutes you jackass!
