I work in healthcare and I care a lot about my patients. I would never do anything to undermine the care a patient receives once they've been assigned to me.
However, I sometimes find myself making up reasons for not taking on new patients. This is despite there being a waiting list for our care (of a few weeks to one month maximum).
Do you think this is unethical? On the one hand, I'm often exhausted from all of these short appointments every day but, on the other hand, if I dodge patients I'm contributing to lengthening waiting times so they have to wait longer for care.
To clarify, I don't deal with matters of life and death. The care I deliver at work is low level but (in my opinion) still important.
