Out of all hours you’re at work how many of them are you actually working?

I’m 26 and work at a grocery store. My store isn’t to busy as its pretty small so I have so much down time. If I have a 7 hour shift I only really do combined maybe 3 hours of work. The remaining 4 hours is me bullshitting with co workers, on my phone, numerous bathroom breaks or finding dumb task to do like sweeping. Even for my normal 15 minute breaks Ill do like a half hour. It’s not that I can’t be a hard worker because I can but when a job pays you so little and there’s truly not that much work to be done I don’t feel the need to put in a ton of effort. I know older generations are probably cringing right now at that mindset but I just want to say, dont get me wrong if there were incentives I would try harder but with how things are now with corporations not giving a shit about employees and exploiting everyone. I know my efforts are meaningless lol

Which makes it a bit depressing because we’re all at these jobs and a lot of the time we’re there we’re not doing anything productive. It’s cool to get paid and do nothing but it’s not that rewarding and I can’t help but feel “I could be living my life right now rather than pretending to be busy”
