What can you do for us?

I’ve been very fortunate to work for some small businesses that were really great to me, I never heard that “family” bullshit and I remain friends with my former bosses. I mean small business to the point that I was the single employee under my bosses and I couldn’t love those jobs any more if I tried. Fast forward to Covid and that cost me a few jobs, took a shitty manufacturing job with a Fortune 100 company, left that after three months and went to work for a guy in his small business. That lasted a year but unfortunately there were just some hits we couldn’t recover from and I wish I didn’t have to go. I ended up going back to another corporate manufacturer last night that I had worked for in the past, it took me one solitary shift to see that not only had nothing really gotten any better, in fact it was worse to no one’s surprise, easily the most miserable work environment I’ve ever had to deal with.

I really should’ve known when I got asked the fun interview questions that essentially equate to, “What can you do for us?”, but when I actually took a glance through the handbook tonight before calling and telling them I wouldn’t ever be in again I saw the icing on the cake firsthand.

This fucking company, within the first few pages of its handbook has it’s “Union Free Concept” which is just written as a scare tactic and it’s laughable to read. Then I got to a section where they had the nerve to mention that if an employee were subject to a garnishment that wasn’t good because it involves extra work and they expect employees to handle their finances so the company doesn’t have to worry about it.

Rant over.
