Work from home – pre and post COVID contrast & BS

Pre-COVID days: I was looking for a remote job, and politely asked about that option on a call with a recruitment agency. Their response was something like, “Uh, what do you mean work from home? No.” In a scoffing tone. And that was the end of the conversation. Post-COVID: that same recruitment agency now has blog posts singing praises to remote work, and how excited they are to find remote talent for companies. I was so desperate for remote work pre-COVID, due to chronic health issues and social anxiety in open office spaces (which most offices were). No one cared, no one acknowledged the request – save a couple agencies specifically built around WFH. Remote work was like some mythical beast hardly any companies/agencies even knew of.

Then suddenly companies and recruiters just “loved” remote work during the pandemic. Work-life balance! Flexible! Productive! Better for health!

But hey, now that people are returning to the office, companies want to forget about WFH again. Or actively discourage it and force employees back into the office.

I am so resentful of the whole work culture in the US. Just had to vent. :/
