This country is screwed without a growing slave class to keep things running. The less slaves, the more bargaining power those slaves have. If not that, then at the very least lowering the population will hurt corporations' bottom line which may help usher change at a fundamental level.
There's also no reasonable way to have kids now unless you are making 6 figures. As much as I would love a family, I refuse to brings sentient beings into this world under strife nor will I let myself struggle and suffer by having kids, always worrying about finances. I will only have kids if I'm (relatively) rich and can stay rich.
