Micromanagement: The Morale Killer

I work in landscape construction. Work for a firm as a “Service Tech”. Basically a handyman in this context. Company vehicle, tools, credit card. It's fine. Been there a year. They love talking about how they don't micromanage. Just received a text from my manager about idling in my truck for 10 minutes asking me what I'm doing and why I'm idling. They've asked that we (the service tech team) review our schedule a day or two ahead to keep things smooth. That's what I'm doing, I explained. Get a call from my manager's manager asking why I've been idling for 11 minutes; proceed to explain the same thing. Ok.

It's not the first time this has happened and really just the tip of the iceberg with this company, but this time my bullshit alarm was ringing loud and clear. Look I get it; I'm in a company vehicle using company money. I've never done anything with any malicious intent. There was just something about the whole interaction that seemed like a power grab, like something wasn't being said, and there was a level of disrespect being projected. Maybe I'm in the wrong, I dunno.

Anywho. Fuck micromanagement and the managers that practice it. After today's interaction I've pretty much had my fill for the remainder of the year. It'll be interesting when nothing gets done out there Stay frosty y'all
