hi everyone long time reader first time poster im currently questioning my self if this even constructive criticism from my boss so little bit information about me so im on my early 20s and english is my second language. I moved to Australia around when i was 15 years old and went on to finished highschool then gone straight to uni to study and bout to graduate soon. So here is the delima i work in small company like bout 10 people and one them is like me who been around Australia about 8 years and he came from non english country aswell. The problem is my boss have been commenting about my thick accent and i have been less than 8 months in the company this include the 3 month probationary period where at the end of this 3 month probationary period i asked him if he would like to keep me in the company and he agreed. I currently enjoy the job since this is what im studying at uni but i do not enjoy the boss comments on my accent especially when i did a mistake on something his saying goes explains what i did wrong and couple minutes goes and says you really need to work in your english it just drains me. also, i have work in retail industry for 5 years where all the time i have to talk and explain technical details of the hardware to the customer it just drains me everytime when they talk about my accent. i probably try stick to this company and look for role in multinational company where i could feel welcome i guess since this is my first job on family owned business and all my experience is working big retail industry. I have ask my mates who have english as first language and live with then for more than 3 years and all of us in similar degree but differ majors and they reckon it just my boss who is not used to my accent yet.
tl:dr new job ,thick accent, boss sometimes not happy about it makes me question if im capable of doing this job as career.
