Attended church and there was “mandatory” work meeting

So I decided to go to the church service and today when I got to work a co-worker walked up to me asking if I gone to the “mandatory” meeting and I told him no (I’m positive he knew I didn’t go). He then asks me what I did and I told him I gone to my church sermon and he then asks me if I got the Ok from the office to go. And here is where he caught me off guard with this. And I know this guy doesn’t like me for whatever reason. My question is can I get fired for attending church to a meeting I wasn’t invited to by my place of employment? Everyone…
