I spoke up for once

Public school teaching is weird. Let me start with that. They only pay you on a scale of how many years you have under your belt. The catch is, it has to be public. For example this is my year 9, but I’m getting paid year 7 since 2 of those years were not public. I actually love teaching. I am used to doing what mentors have said- just keep your mouth closed, be happy you got a job. Well, I noticed they started me on another step lower…. 🫤 I asked for it to be reviewed and politely declined to sign the contract. After review, I’m getting bumped up. I know this could have gone either way but I’m proud of myself for speaking up!
