Hi all. I’m a quality engineer at a factory (salaried) for a company (extremely large, household name) ; contract negotiations are up in a couple weeks. From what I’ve heard, the union (which is very large and extends to multiple other companies) may strike depending on how negotiations go. I’ve also heard rumors that if there is a strike, execs will have salaried workers on the line. This is somewhat laughable – I don’t know if we even have enough salaried workers at my plant to build a single thing. More importantly, I don’t want to be a scab. I also don’t want to lose my livelihood. Not sure what to do, if the time comes.
Has anyone been in this position before? What do I do? I’m hoping it goes smoothly but this is my first job out of college so I haven’t been around for negotiations yet and I don’t know what to expect.
