I work at a gas station. I've worked there for about 2.5 years. I get paid fairly well above a living wage ($6.50 more than livable wage according to living wage calculator for one adult with no children) and that's as a bottom tier employee with no responsibility other than just showing up to work.
It has an incredible 401k program (i got about 20% of my wage last year into my 401k) and the company is completely employee owned.
As the bottom tier employee I can create my own schedule and ask off any day in advance as long as I get it in Tuesday the week before and have some access to PTO (it is very lacking compared to an ideal version of PTO)
The company realized that hey, they spend a lot of money on healthcare for employees and just socialized healthcare within its own company and hired their own doctors and made their own doctor offices that's extremely cheap and any profits they make we receive back to our payments biannually.
But the company would rather close than allow a workers union to happen Everyone CEO and down is republican, 70%+ of my coworkers I meet in these locations are republican and would literally riot if we socialized healthcare and if workers demanded these rights at their jobs.
