I live in a small town and recently got hired by a company that is known in the area as, “a great place to work”.
It's one of those places that are hard to get into, and you likely have to know someone to get hired full time off the street. Otherwise, the only way to get in is to accept a short term seasonal position, or you could get hired for a part time position that could eventually lead to full time employment… maybe.
Since starting there, the scheduling has been a complete joke. Anywhere from 0 to 48 hours a week. Work days cancelled with no more than two hours notice. Having to work in multiple departments just to get any hours. All things you would deal with as a part time employee I guess…
What bothers me though, more than any of that, is that they know, and are very much aware, that most of the part time employees want to become Full time employees. They seem to dangle full time positions in front of our noses like a “carrot on a stick”. The trainers and supervisors were continually bringing up full time positions during your training period. There are posters up everywhere stating that they want to hire full time employees…
But even if your production numbers are near perfect, and you express interest in a full time position, they blow you off and say they will discuss it with you later.
