Microaggression at Work

Hello everyone. I’m a fresh grad & I wanted to share some of my experiences and concerns. Firstly, it’s worth mentioning that most employees in this company belong to 1 race, while I represent the only minority in my department. Recently, our company had an important event that required three representatives to attend. Unfortunately, I wasn’t chosen for this opportunity, despite my tenure and experience. Instead, someone who has only been with our company for a month was selected. Given the significance of this event, I couldn't help but perceive this as a form of microaggression, particularly because those chosen shared the same race and language. My boss said next event will be my turn but there’s no definitive answer when the next event and I’ve never been to any event so far.

Another aspect that has added to my discomfort is the frequent use of their language within my department, even when discussing work-related matters. It feels somewhat rude and exclusionary when I’m unable to fully understand or contribute to these conversations. I believe it’s important to maintain a professional and inclusive language environment, using English or our country's native language.

These experiences & other factors such as heavy workload and an unrelated job scope led me to consider finding a new job. Additionally, it’s disheartening that despite completing almost 6 months of internship and another 6 months in my current position, I am still under probation. Moreover, I’m in a business development role without any commission structure, yet I am still expected to drive sales. Additionally, I am not provided a phone allowance despite the necessity of using my personal phone and line to contact customers.

Note: We are Asian of different races & are not white/black people…
