54 Cents

I waited a year for a raise. I was told we were in a down turn and the company couldn’t afford annual raises. I deliver construction material. I drive a box truck loaded with cabinets, doors, moulding, windows, and even full fucking sets of staircases. I deliver all of it by hand with a helper. All of that shit is overweight. Light deliveries are still 50lbs+ of material per item. Some cabinets push into the 100-150lb range. Staircases can be 400-600lbs+ depending on the wood and rise. I’m 23. My back is already starting to hurt. I can’t stand up without my knees hurting. So what does my company value that labor at? $18.54, at least now after the long awaited raise that is. 54 fucking cents. The fuck can I buy with $20 extra a week?
