Quit my job, but never heard back from HR, is this normal?

I finally quit my job. Most of my co workers were great but the management was really bad. It was a care job and the residents also were let down by the management a lot and once I felt the residents were being put at risk by poor policy changes I quit immediately stating my concerns. I also felt unsafe and there were a lot of rules being broken apparently, a nurse that came in told us this. At my other jobs if I left there was always communication between HR, and an official letter. Is this normal to just get zero response? At my other jobs if I left there was always communication between HR, and an official letter. Is this normal to just get zero response? I quit with no notice but I agreed to try and work any left over shifts which could not be covered, so I worked one last shift. My co workers were also complaining about not getting enough shifts and it seemed that they were happy to take mine. Normally I would never quit with no notice but I was genuinely disgusted by the choices made by management.
