Boss requested I take my approved week of vacation at a future undetermined time

My upcoming week of vacation was approved months ago, now being pressured to move it out to another week due to a current project I’m managing and no one else supposedly available to handle. When I scheduled my time off this project was not on the books, and now finding out the end date may go several weeks longer due to additions added by the client. My boss has requested I change my vacation, his knowing it would be a staycation so no flights, hotels, etc booked. This project most likely won’t end until early to mid-November, so many of the plans I had for my week in September would not be doable. My question – Should I ask for extra compensation for basically having to take my vacation at a less than desirable time not of my choosing? My question – Should I ask for extra compensation for basically having to take my vacation at a less than desirable time not of my choosing? My boss readily admitted he forgot I was off (I’ve taken this same week for over 15 years), and now it is too late to adjust work assignments to accommodate. Someone on my team with much, much less tenure managed to have 2 consecutive weeks off with 3 people splitting the work load, so I am a bit miffed in having to make accommodations for the company with only requesting one week off which was approved 6 months ago. Our company’s vacation policy is use it or lose it, no carryover to the next year.
