I posted this on the mental health sub but thought I’d share here as well.
It’s taken me 9 jobs to figure out that the biggest source of stress for me is being overworked. (Well, besides not making enough money, but I’ll save that meltdown for another day.) These are the spiraling thoughts I have when overworked, maybe you can relate:
- I can’t do all this work.
- my work time is not valued. I am not valued.
- no one cares about my personal well-being, just that the work gets done.
- my health and survival don’t matter, only work.
- this is going to be as painful as every other time I’ve been overworked.
- my coworkers/boss think I’m not working hard enough.
- working as hard as I can and being stressed doesn’t fix anything, and won’t make the work load better. / it doesn’t matter how hard I work, nothing will get better.
- no one appreciates how hard I work.
- no one appreciates me.
- there must be something wrong with me if I can’t do all this work.
- I should kill myself.
All my previous jobs where I’ve been overworked were corporate, for-profit jobs. Work work work and make the boss more money. Now I’m at a nonprofit that I actually love, and I’m being overworked because we are not funded enough to hire the correct amount of employees!! Lol fuck all this fucking shit. Just fuck it all.
