Start new job Monday, but current job doesn’t end until October 2nd

My current role is ending October 2nd due to layoffs. I was given a 5-month notice, so I was thankful for that. After I leave, I get a two week severance, pay out my PTO (three weeks), and get two more months of paid benefits. I’m taking around a $40k pay cut for the new job and it’ll take me awhile to build up my territory to start earning commissions. So I told the new company I can start Monday, but also telling my current job I’ll be staying there through my official end date. I WFH, and my job load at current job is very light, so I can juggle it. I figure this way I can bank some cash to help make up for the lower salary, and the new job’s benefits won’t start for 90 days, so this helps in that regards too. Win/win/win! I’m a single…

I’m a single mom with sole custody, so I’ve been scared to death about finding a new role to keep us afloat. This will help tremendously to get us through the holidays!
