Work is shady?

Is it illegal for my company to not pay overtime until after 55 hours? I work on trailers and i do not have a cdl or any kind of endorsements so why is my company paying me like a driver? I feel like I’m being robbed lowkey and i had an interview for another job and even they said it was illegal. My manager has said people tried to sue or whatever in the past and they never won so would it be worth it? Maybe my boss is just saying that so i don’t seek legal action? Based in texas
