So I’d been working at a large soda company, really shitty place with poor management and really high turnover rate. I only stayed there because I needed the experience on my resume. A while back I’d gotten my 5 days of pto, and never used it. I had my next job lined up and the company was suspending me for 4 days for missing 3 days of work. This just pissed me off and made me want to quit sooner. I checked over the vacation policy and it said if you quit or are terminated you still get the payout, didn’t mention any exceptions. I asked my supervisor if I quit do I still get pto, and he said yes. I then said “I quit effective immediately” (this was at the end of my shift, I didn’t walk out during my shift or anything) he asked me if I wanted to sign a letter of resignation and I said no and left. There was nothing in writing or any documentation of this. Two weeks later, I’m calling asking where my vacation payout is, and hr emails me this excerpt from something we don’t have access to as employees that says employees need to give 1 week notice to receive the payout. I got a letter next day air shipped to me with one of their write up forms in it saying i got my 4th violation for absences which means termination, because when i called the national hr center a week after I quit they said i was still an active employee. Sorry this is so long worded, I’m just wondering if I can say I never said I quit, I just asked if I get the vacation pay for quitting? If all the background info wouldn’t be pages long I’d explain more but I’ll just say it was totally warranted how I quit.
