Jobs where you have to be on call

Is this a dealbreaker for anyone else? I applied for a maintenance job at a (public) railroad company and they require a good amount of time on call outside of your normal hours. Not sure how much exactly but they implied it was a lot. This includes nights, weekends, holidays. I know for some jobs like EMS, nurses, firefighters, that comes with the territory. But I just hate the idea of being on call. When I clock out, I want to be clocked out. The job pays well, but to me it's not worth it to sacrifice my personal life and be on call at odd hours. Is that unreasonable or foolish?
