I (35f) work for a mortgage company and can’t afford a mortgage

Okay, so I’m not a loan officer and have no desire to be one. But this company is doing well, or it was. Since the post-pandemic market collapse/cooking period, we aren’t doing even 10% of the loans we were doing before so I don’t have as much work. Even if I was working overtime like we were three years ago, I still would not be able to afford a mortgage on even the lowest priced houses in our market. So today I’m asked to help one of our LO’s (mid sixties) develop a series of tiktoks targeted at my demographic to get us to do mortgages with this company. I laughed in their face. “Are you serious? “Are you serious? My demographic, single women in Utah can’t afford a mortgage. Most couples in Utah cannot afford a mortgage together and still live. My demographic are moving, or they’re killing themselves to work enough to afford a home they never spend time in.”

This LO did not seem to understand. “You have a house, right?”

No, I don’t. I have no hope of affording a house here ever on this salary.

They just walked away, frowning.

They do not understand how the millennial generation is hamstrung financially, how two people working full time with good credit can’t get into a house. And if they do, I guarantee they are working their asses off to spend nights in a place they barely get to see, eating food they can barely afford.

They don’t understand. They just don’t.
