Boss is upset I handed in my resignation two days ago even though he handed in his own a few weeks prior.

Made a post on here that hit the front page recently about how corporate has ruined the company they acquired. If you care, you can read here Some backstory: I work for a small company that was acquired by a larger company shortly before my start date. After a little over a year there I saw the writing on the wall. We are getting busier and busier, with my department being half the size of the next smallest department but with no plans for hiring a junior person to take over the entry level responsibilities we've been doing. I am an accountant and corporate has their own accountants at HQ, so they just see it as an unnecessary expense and we have essentially been made entry-level over time. Some backstory:

I work for a small company that was acquired by a larger company shortly before my start date.

My boss (CFO of the subsidiary I'm part of) announced he'll be leaving at the end of December, and we all know it is because he is burned out. Even when I was handing in my resignation to him, he mentioned that things have changed a lot in the last year. Notably, my coworker who is the Controller, is not getting promoted after 12 years with the company. Instead corporate is absorbing the CFO position. This and the above paragraph, made me realize that there is no future here. Aside from me, everyone in my department is 60 or older so they are all on the cusp of retirement. Since I'm only a few years into my career, I recognize there is no path for internal promotion here and I would be stuck doing entry level things until I retire or leave. They're probably not firing people only because it would be horrible for morale and it's easier to wait for the accountants to just leave.

So I started job hunting and got an offer for a position that is a step up, higher pay, and four days remote (currently am 5 days in office). I handed in my two weeks' notice and my boss' treatment of me has done a complete 180. No more going out of his way to tell me good morning when he walks by my office. No more asking how I'm doing. When I go into his office to get his signature on a check, no more small talk and jokes. Instead it's just awkward silence followed by a “here”.

It's mind boggling considering it won't be his problem in a few months, and I am leaving for the same reasons that he is. Last week he was even walking around smugly saying he had “88 days left”, rubbing it in people's faces.

The cherry on top is I learned that they don't even know if they'll be hiring someone to fill my position, as corporate might just absorb it. I absolutely made the right decision in leaving. He's just mad that his last few months are going to be even harder because I guess I beat him to the punch.
