Colleague requested leave 2 months in advance. Boss couldn’t arrange coverage and colleague had to come in on the second day.

I'm so fucking mad right now. Friday I usually work a 12 hour morning shift, and my colleague works a 5.5 hour evening/close shift. Saturday I usually work an 8 hour morning shift, and my colleague works a 9.5 hour evening/close shift. My colleague requested these two days off for paid annual leave 2 months in advance which was aporoved. We occasionally use an outside contracted company to cover hours that can't be covered in house. On the Friday towards the end of my shift I'm waiting for my replacement to arrive, and nothing. No one turns up. I call my boss, he calls the company, it takes a while. He asks if I can stay back 2 hours until the guy gets here. Oh and he's never been here before so train him in 20 minutes, good luck. I'm fucking livid. 14 goddamn hours and I'm a fucking zombie.…

14 goddamn hours and I'm a fucking zombie. Thank god this guy actually did a good job otherwise we'd be royally fucked (I checked the next morning, it was impressive). The boss thanks me for staying back and confirms that tomorrow's coverage is sorted. It will be another new contractor, but they will be in a few hours early so I can train them. Sweet.

Well the time ticks over, and no sign of anyone. I call the contractor company contact my boss provided me and get told 'Oh yeah, he called in sick and we have no one else'

What. The. Fuck.

At this point the guy is 90 minutes late. Thanks for the heads up, fucker.

So I'm calling my boss, he's calling other contractor companies. I'm texting coworkers and they are asking everyone they know. But nothing. No one can cover this shift.

Now our saviour enters the employee group chat. The guy who is meant to be on leave today. He says if there is no other option, he will come in and do the 5.5 hours if I turn my 8 into a 12. And that's what happened. He cut his leave short to cover for not one, not two, but at least four incompetent companies who couldn't even provide one person.

This guy is my hero and I feel like absolute shit for him having to cut his leave short. Fuck the companies involved. Incompetent fucking morons.
