Ok so I was venting to my parents because I was doing a favor for a different department and they didn’t get me the material I needed til 6 pm and still expected me to turn it around and finish the same day. (I’m an accountant for a private company). I vent to my parents, but still worked til 8:30 pm got 3/4 of the work done and then a miracle happens my internet provider had an outage and I received notice they will be out til 10 pm. I message to the coworker and stated that I got the 3/4 work done but since I received it so late, and due to the outage I’m picking it up tomorrow morning. I politely stated to please submit earlier no later than noon going forward. Rather than being sympathetic my boomer parents side with the coworker and say that I need to be a team player that sometimes you just have to work late and I should have gone to a coffee shop to finish…. Even going so far as to say my attitude is lacking and the reason I was fired from a job 10 years ago. Which is not true, I was given unrealistic expectations, no support, and minimal training. Then expected to sink or swim.
