Punished For Short-Term Disability

After about 9 months as a new engineer at the employer I needed to take off 2 weeks for medical care and in-patient hospitalization, all of this communicated to the employer. Upon being discharged I was told I was furloughed because they didn’t have any projects to place me on and had transferred the project I was on to someone else. Now upon returning to work and being given a new project, it is the most mundane and unrelating work. Nobody else at the company wants to do it and doesn’t use the skills (FEA) that I have learned in previous projects/jobs. Have a strong feeling I am being slowly pushed out and punished for taking the necessary time off to deal with my own health.
