Little rant, little story time. Pretty much an ex-boss after today. This guy thinks it’s okay that I should be on call (with no pay) to come in to work (skilled trade job) whenever is convenient for him. I used to have a regular schedule of ~ 27 hours a week (I’m a full time grad student). Then he brought in an old friend of his to work there because he needed money (pays him under the table). As soon as friend comes around my hours are cut. My performance was never a problem, actually outperformed others at job. I haven’t been at work for over a month since his friend comes around. His friend called out this week so now boss thinks he can just call me in like nothing is wrong. He actually doesn’t even talk to me directly. He uses a coworker (I’m pretty good friends with her) to tell me things because I’m sure he thinks I’d be more compliant. Was told they really need help. Since I haven’t been to work in a while, I am now freelance—freelance hours = freelance pay. I text boss directly my offer “hi, 200$ cash for me to come in to work, I have other plans that have been set for a while but can cancel”. He tells me through friend that he was not happy with me. I really don’t care I’m not going to work. People like this need to get wrecked
