Urgent help needed!!!!

Hey guys! I need some really big help right now and I was hoping you guys could help me. So to clarify for legal purposes, this takes place in New Jersey. today at my place of work my boss told me to work off the books from now on at the shop and there are no other alternatives. Immediately after I say that’s not possible I can’t do that, he started complaining about all my work that day, that otherwise he wouldn’t care about. Mind you, I already do more work than he does. When I work it’s spotless and clean, and everything is put back immediately; as for my boss he doesn’t do any of that. immediately after that, he fired me and I suspect it’s because I refused to go off the books. Including this, he also made us work 12 hour shifts with no breaks, takes tip…

Including this, he also made us work 12 hour shifts with no breaks, takes tip money away from the employees (we are service workers at a coffee shop getting paid under minimum wage) and also wouldn’t pay us after closing time when I had to clean. I live in the state of New Jersey and I understand it is an at will state but still this seems very illegal to me. I’ve contacted a local attorney who said he can’t help and I won’t be able to find an attorney to help my case since ultimately it amounts to only a few thousand dollars in damages, but still I do not know what to do. I’ve contacted the division of labor, and they said at best all I can do is file a complaint which we all know won’t do anything. I also fear he will spread lies about me and why I was fired because he did the same thing with another employee he fired and then said very rude and untrue things about why my co worker was fired. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I genuinely don’t know what to do.
