My company (boss) has a strict late policy and if you are late you have to do 10 push ups, legally is this allowed?

I know it's sort of a “funny” way of reprimanding workers who show up late and what not, but I was thinking can the boss really enforce this? It wasn't written anywhere in the contract (obviously) but it was just a work cultural thing that was mentioned upon hiring… At first I thought it was just a ha ha joke, until i accidentally hit the snooze button and showed up late. I had to do 10 push ups in front of everyone and on the inside I was dying. I know at that point I should hit the gym more, but IDK man… this is really kinda odd. But I guess i could just do the push ups and keep my job or show up late and get fired.
