I’ve been working a couple weeks at a fine dining restaurant as a host. I worked a double shift about almost 10 hours. Usually double shifts get a meal but they very recently changed the policy where they no longer do but the manager will sometimes pay for employee meals. Today another host who is not really good at her job (avoids doing certain tasks) asked for a 33 dollar meal and the manager paid for it however when I asked him for his code so I can purchase a meal he made me pay for it myself. It was 10 dollars with an employee discount which wasn’t really much I felt kinda disappointed but ignored it. Today was a veryyy busy night and we were completely booked up with a 45 minute waitlist. The host coordinator messed up a couple times and was only working about 5 hours at that point they gave me tables that were still dirty to seat people and it was all very disorganized which I was still empathetic with due to how busy we are. As well as this I had to bus and reset a BUNCH of tables which I happily did to help the servers. However, the manager gave us both gift cards as a token of appreciation for dealing with this extreme volume of people. Their’s was 50 dollars while mine was 25. While I still appreciate it greatly it did almost feel like a slap to the face. The coordinators do make more money than us hosts too.
